Carlson is set on the idea of shooting Candy’s dog. What case does he make for doing so? How does Candy respond? Why does he refuse to shoot his dog?

I do not know why Carlson is so obsessed on getting rid of the dog. He makes the case that it is old arthritic and smelly. Candy is really attached to this dog and i think that part of it is that he lived nearly his whole life with the dog. It is like a family member to him and Candy doesm’t seem to have many other people in his life that are close to him. I think the only reason he agreed is because Slim sort of agreed with Carlson.

Candy doesn’t object to anyone shooting his dog he just tried to change their opinion about it a little bit.

Poor Candy doesn’t know what to say to protect his best friend, that has been with him since he was a puppy. Candy is similar to the old dog in the way that now just like his dog, he is old and can’t do the work we used to do and to the rest of the men, useless.

Candy doesn’t want his dog to die because he has a sentimental attachment to the dog because he saw it grow from a puppy. Also he knows that the dog was useful at one time and thinks that it should not be harmed, due to these reasons.

Comment by jjspencer April 17, 2007 @ 5:27 pmCandy’s responds is saying that he does not want his dog to be shot. He refuses to shoot his dog because he had him sence a pup & that he is so used to having him around but also that fact that he used to be a good sheep dog when youger.
I’m not quite sure why Caralson is so set on shooting that dog but he does.The only reasons Carlson had was that he smelled and was old, which are hardly any reason to shoot a living creature. Candy did give into it, but he didn’t do it, later he did regret a stranger shooting it.

Also because he thinks that the dog is just hurting itself by staying alive. Curley doesn’t want Slim to kill his dog because it’s been with him for a very long time. I don’t think Carlson had any right at all to shoot the dog. If somebody was going to do that to me, I would flip out and not let them./

Candy reacts by trying to defend his dog by saying that he’s had it since it was a pup and that he don’t want to shoot him. He refuses to shoot the dog because he’s too close with it and he doesn’t want to see it go.

He wants to put the dog out of its missery.Candy didnt want him to do that becase hes been with this dog forever. He didn’t want to shoot his dog because of that reason too.

While they killed his dog, Candy just kinda eccnored it because the dog was the only family member in his life he had since he was a pup.
